With the U.S. economy tumbling down it is understandable that there will be budget cuts around the country. Here in California we see it all the time. Just a few months ago Governor Schwarzenegger proposed additional budget cuts for our educational system. Parents shouldn’t panic, though. While the governor isn’t planning on opening an Arnold Schwarzenegger Center for Kids Who Can’t Read Good And Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too, he is looking towards the future. On Friday, April 11, 2008, Governor Swartzenegger proposed a $7 billion dollar plan to improve health care for California’s finest, the inmates. This would include the construction of new prison hospitals and mental health centers and improvements to the current facilities. This five year project will most likely gain the approval of Californians, especially parents. Why, you may ask? The answer is simple. Due to the lack of educational opportunities here in California it is safe to assume that the children of today will be the criminals of tomorrow. Therefore, by improving the inmate care at various correctional facilities, the governor is preparing for the future well being of our children. Thank goodness!!

i like the connection you make there. but yea regardless of how much money is or isn't put into our school systems, the outcome isn't going to be much different because we have a really outdated education system. there is no reason for a finnish kid to kick my ass at calculus.

Wow. This is amazing! Amazingly STUPID!?? Will common sense every be popular again? "If you build it, they will come." We are just being set up for failure. The rich and upper class don't have to worry about stuff like this; they're protected by their money. But what about the rest of us? The impoverished, and the working and middle class have to work twice as hard to get our children to the next grade level. The leaders of this state, and country for that matter, should feel ashamed of themselves. This is a disgrace!

This is what I call bureaucratic dysfunction, the official goals of an agency were thwarted or ignored altogether at the expense of the citizens due to government officials’ unfair regulation. what is more important? The wellfare of prisoners or the future of our children? (sigh)

My gosh. Arnold needs to understnad that there are kids that need education. Also, why is he going to help the criminals when they don't even deserve to be taken cared of that great because they did something bad to get in there. They aren't supposed to like to be in there.
